INTRODUCTION:
Student employees will be expected to learn Spokane Salish full-time. The Student Employees will be taught through the npoqiniscn curriculum. Student Employees must progress through each level of curriculum (N1, S1, N2, S2, N3, S3) and achieve a C1 level of fluency on the CEFR scale.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be a model of professional conduct as outlined in the employee policy manual.
- Adhere to the Adult Fluency Training Program rules, goals, and responsibilities.
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with elders, supervisors, instructors, and coworkers.
- Utilize excellent interpersonal skills.
- Be willing to learn Spokane Salish with all tools and strategies at their disposal.
- Complete all homework assignments and assessments as assigned by instructors and supervisors.
- Engage in classroom activities and immersions cooperatively and attentively.
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with supervisors and instructors.
- Be respectful towards other interior salish language programs.
- Other duties/training and activities as requested or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:
- Must have the ability to apply Tribal Values of common sense or Indigenous thinking to a wide rand of intellectual and practical problems.
- Must have the ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism.
- Must have the ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Work is performed mostly indoors but on cultural outings and field trips they may be required to work in all types of weather and outside terrain.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, also climb and get into confined spaces.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be able to pass required background checks.
- A valid WA State Driver’s License, good driving record and be able to hold Tribal Insurance (if required to drive).
