INTRODUCTION:

David C Wynecoop Memorial Health Center provides healthcare for the Spokane Tribe of Indians and the surrounding areas. Pharmacists have a critical role in the delivery of these services and are highly trusted resources by our community. The pharmacy utilizes robotics and other technologies to aid in patient care. With the addition of more pharmacist positions, we plan to expand into providing pharmacist run clinics for our patients and additional education/information for our staff and community.

David C Wynecoop Memorial Health Center is a tribally run health facility that provides medical, dental, laboratory, imaging, pharmacy, behavioral health, and community support services. We are a rural facility that provides critical services and provides care for an underserved population.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director, performs all duties necessary to provide effective daily operations.
  • Reviews prescriptions issued by physicians or others authorized to prescribe to assure accuracy; determines formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Dispense prescribed medications ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors all postings onto patient profiles in the computer system. Ensures accuracy and that drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy and incompatibilities are identified and better patient care received.
  • Directs pharmacy personnel engaged in packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Supervises pharmacy staff: pharmacy technician, pharmacy assistant, pharmacy students.
  • Maintains a professional, helpful, and courteous relationship with all staff of the pharmacy/health center.
  • Answer questions and provide information to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc.
  • Advises the public on over-the-counter medications to treat minor illnesses.
  • Endorses policies and procedures of the pharmacy and health center.
  • Ensures the maintenance and proper operation of equipment and supplies in the pharmacy.
  • Maintains PAR levels of medications and supplies for the pharmacy; places orders as needed.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality control, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Provides pharmaceutical care to all ages of patients from newborns to the elderly. Understands there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients and knows where to find appropriate information.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Stays current in the pharmaceutical field through continuing education, conferences, professional journals, and societies.
  • Answer all telephone calls in a professional manner. Take prescriptions over the phone from healthcare professionals who are authorized to prescribe medications.
  • Obtains and enters patients’ demographic and insurance information into the computer system.
  • Able to operate a cash register; able to manage cash, check and charge card sales accurately.
  • Knowledgeable of the layout of the store; able to direct customers to products.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy services in the form of pharmacist run clinics using current guidelines and practices.
  • Assist in maintaining and reporting 340b inventory and compliance.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current Pharmacist licensure or certification in a state of the United States
  • Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either from school education or subsequent training.
  • Critical thinking skills to provide effective patient care with limited resources.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in leading or participating in pharmacist-led ambulatory programs.
  • Skills and desire to assist in teaching/precepting pharmacy students.

Must provide documentation of immunity to measles, and rubella, or become vaccinated with the recommended vaccines and hepatitis B vaccine Must test for Tuberculosis (TB) at time of hire and per the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as required. Must have an annual health exam and a flu immunization and Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) vaccination or exemption as required.
