INTRODUCTION:
The position is located at the David C. Wynecoop Memorial Health Center, Wellpinit, WA. The purpose of the position is to learn and to perform maintenance duties as required by the Health Center Facility Manager. Duties include performing preventive maintenance operations, repairing medical and dental equipment. Performing painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and ground maintenance are required, in addition to other duties as assigned, such as housekeeping.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Painting 15%
Assists Facilities Manager by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the painting trade and working with the journey level painters as instructed. Prepares or gathers all necessary tools and equipment for projects or assignments. Prepares worksite (e.g., sets up scaffolds, ladders, stands, etc.). Covers work areas with drop cloths and tape. Assists in surface preparation by scraping, wire brushing, masking, sanding, or applying prepared solvents. Cleans, degreases, and removes oil or wax buildup. Removes scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and painting supplies. Hands tools to journey level painters, as required.
- Plumbing 15%
Helps the Facilities Manager in plumber duties by performing the simpler and more routine tasks of the trade. Performs assigned routine tasks. For example, cuts pipe to marked size; cuts or drills holes as marked; screws, bolts or attaches hangers; caulks or seals areas as directed; tightens connections and valves; uses plunger or snake to unclog drains; threads pipe as directed, where tools have been set up by others; and performs similar tasks following very specific instructions. Obtains, carries, lifts, and positions equipment, parts, and tools needed for plumbing installation and repair. Keeps equipment, tools, supplies, and work site clean and in appropriate order.
- Carpentry 15%
Receives instructions from a Facilities Manager in journey level Carpenter and learns by performing the simpler and more routine duties as a trainee in the carpentry trade. Assists in assembling and installing parts and units by getting tools and supplies, carrying materials, and lifting and holding materials in place. Receives instructions and assists journeyman by using common carpentry tools to cut, drill, and assemble work products. Follows established safety procedures and practices when using hand and power equipment. Cleans tools and equipment and keeps work area clean and orderly.
- Electrical 15%
Assists the Facilities Manager by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the electrical trade and working with the journey level electricians as instructed. Prepares or gathers all necessary tools and equipment for projects or assignments. Prepares worksite (e.g., sets up scaffold, ladders, stands, etc.). Covers work areas with protective materials to prevent damage from soil, grease, or stain marks. Assists in the removal, repair, and installation of electrical components and wiring. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and electrical supplies.
Hands tools to journey level electricians, as required. Preheats soldering irons. Drills holes in wood or concrete. Installs anchors and straps for conduit. Makes connections on simple switches and receptacles. Replaces defective lamps and fuses.
- Grounds 20%
Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; prepare and fertilize soil; water various grounds areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system. Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; hoe and pull weeds and rake leaves; sweep and blow walkways, parking lots and areas adjacent to buildings; edge walkways. Irrigate and cultivate trees, shrubs and other plantings. Perform general grounds cleanup, including sweeping litter from walks and driveways; remove trash and pick up paper and debris on grounds areas, parking lots and other assigned areas; empty waste receptacles. Snow removal of sidewalks and walking paths, parking lots and driveways, and apply de-ice or ice melting materials as necessary.
- Other Maintenance/Miscellaneous 20%
Performs a variety of general maintenance and upkeep duties in and around the assigned buildings and grounds. Assignments are designed to maintain and enhance the natural environment and overall appearance around the buildings and facilities. Work involves the performance of tasks requiring prior experience and the use of very heavy physical effort. Apply various pest and weed control agents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Factor II: Responsibility
Receives detailed instructions on new assignments with close supervision and detailed review. Performs simple, routine tasks under general supervision after they are learned; performs more difficult tasks in a training environment under close supervision.
- Factor III: Physical Effort
Uses hand and power tools and equipment that may require standing and holding tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as plywood sheets and other construction materials. Work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops. May lift and move materials up to 88 kilograms (40 pounds), unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
- Factor IV: Working Conditions
Works in shops and at job sites. In shops, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. At job sites, may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions. May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty. Uses protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highschool Diploma or GED preferred
- Valid Driver License
- Physical capability (to perform duties as mentioned above)
In accordance with the requirements of the Health Center Manual, employee of this position, as a condition of employment, must document immunity to Rubella & Measles. Influenza vaccine is recommended for all health workers in contact with patients.
The employee must be suitable for Tribal employment in your position as determined by fingerprint check results and appropriate background investigation. An incumbent found not suitable after hire will be removed from this position.
The employee is required to operate a tribal-owned or leased motor vehicle, commercial motor vehicle, rental motor vehicle or privately owned motor vehicle in the performance of official duties. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
