STATUS: REGULAR, FULL-TIME, NON-EXEMPT
RATE: $24.96 – $31.19 / PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION:
The primary focus of the position will be to research and conduct assessments of wildlife on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Employee will conduct habitat surveys and assessments in areas important to wildlife and the tribe and provide wildlife related recommendations to the program manager. Employee will participate in the tribe’s Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP) ID Team and provide input related to habitat management and restoration projects.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research, plan & conduct studies (assessments) concerning ungulate populations, habi-tat, fawning/calving areas, and seasonal ranges.
• Research, plan & conduct studies (assessments) concerning carnivore populations and habitat.
• Review projects and assess potential impacts to wildlife and their habitats.
• Collect, process & evaluate the quality & validity of data and prepare reports.
• Design, implement, and supervise youth habitat vegetation surveys in relation to exist-ing and future habitat studies.
• Must be confident in safely handling wildlife.
• Participate/Assist in all aspects of habitat management and restoration projects.
• Lead with coordination & development of outreach.
• Lead with research, writing, & submitting grant proposals.
• Supervise technician crews on various wildlife, habitat, and restoration projects, data collection, and activities.
• Must have the ability to work independently or collaboratively to meet deadlines.
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Must have ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of
intellectual and practical problems.
• Must have experience using Microsoft Office software.
• Must have experience using ArcGIS software, GPS and other data collection equipment.
• Ability to safely operate an ATV/UTV.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently manage budgets.
• Must be willing to work extended hours, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
• Ability to walk/hike for extended periods of time and ability to carry packs or equipment up to 40 pounds over rugged terrain.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license and be tribally insurable
• CPR/First Aid Card
• Animal Handling and Chemical Immobilization required within one year of hire date
BIO I
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University in Wildlife Biolo-gy, Wildlife Management, Zoology or related field of study

BIO II
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University in Wildlife Biolo-gy, Wildlife Management, Zoology or related field of study with 4-years relevant work experience OR Master’s Degree in similar field of study with 1-year relevant work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s Degree from an accredited College/University in Wildlife Biology, Wildlife
Management, Zoology or related field of study; OR two years of relevant work experience
• Animal Handling and Chemical Immobilization Training
