INTRODUCTION:
The Pauline Stearns Early Learning Center provides a safe and developmentally appropriate environment that is culturally relevant to children and families which reside, work, or attend school on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The primary emphasis of the program is to provide Early Childhood learning in an educational setting. The Early Learning Center promotes competence in our children, parent alliances, community collaboration and proficiency in our staff.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
- Performs daily environmental upkeep of the facility and grounds including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, garbage removal, office maintenance, restroom maintenance, classroom maintenance, window maintenance, parking lot maintenance, playground upkeep, snow removal and attends to other maintenance issues which arise pertinent to the position.
- Performs a wide variety of general and semiskilled maintenance activities (i.e. carpentry, painting, plumbing etc.) for the purpose of completing projects, tasks and/or work orders within established time frames.
- Assists the 477/TANF maintenance staff with projects (i.e. completing specific tasks, transporting and/or securing materials etc.) for the purpose of completing projects, tasks and/or work orders in a safe efficient manner as needed.
- Prepares written materials (i.e. activity logs, time reports etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
- Repairs equipment and building system components for the purpose of ensuring a safe working environment and/or condition.
- Maintains assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in a safe operating condition.
- Assists in maintenance of any and all program vehicles.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving safety concerns.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and reports any safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Ensures the grounds/facilities are operating in safe, clean, sanitary, efficient, comfortable, and sound condition.
- Coordinate with 477/TANF Maintenance for building upkeep and repairs.
- Maintain facility in congruence with minimum licensing requirements.
- Maintain facility and property to keep up with Early Achievers quality requirements.
- Assists with rodent and pest control.
- Other duties as needed and as assigned.
Security Guard Duties:
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
- Develops and maintains evacuation and lock down procedures for emergent situations.
- Limits access of vagrant and non-necessary individuals.
- Obtains help by calling police and sounding alarms.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
- Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintain positive rapport with all clientele and staff.
- Ensure facility is secured and vacant at the end of each shift.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Must have good communication skills.
- Ability to write reports, keep logs, work orders, order supplies, etc.
- Public Safety and Security – Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Experience in basic facility and grounds maintenance.
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, and groundskeeping skills.
- Must be physically able to perform duties such as climbing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older and must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position: sit, stand, bend, and walk for long periods of time; and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, bend, climb ladders, work in inclement weather, work in an environment subject to chemical cleaners, pesticides (lawn maintenance), dust, allergens etc.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Employee must be willing to travel to all required trainings pertinent to position annually.
- Successful clearance of Criminal History and Background inquiry—Tribal, State and Federal.
- Successful clearance of National Child Abuse Registry and Neglect Data System
- Valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to be Tribally insured
OTHER:
- Be willing to assist in classrooms when needed.
