SUMMARY:
The Summer Youth Lead Crew Boss will be involved in planning and implementing summer youth employment activities and oversee all YES Team activities.  Will also work directly with summer youth participants, teaching good work ethics, valuable work experiences, and practices.

The Summer Youth Lead Crew Boss position will work May through August.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Assists in program development with a focus on activities that align with program employment objectives;
  • Carries out scheduled activity plans in a timely manner;
  • Monitor SYE staff to ensure they are fulfilling their daily objectives by completing activities/tasks;
  • Monitors YES Team workers daily; works along with staff/youth during activities/projects assigned;
  • Provide interventions and disciplinary actions as needed, reports to supervisor(s) all issues.
  • Ensures safety and well-being of youth through positive teachings and guidance. Serves as a leader and role-model;
  • Follow tribal protocols by documenting and reporting incidents and or accidents;
  • Track staff/youth hours to ensure accurate and complete timesheets bi-weekly;
  • Monitor and track mileage used on vehicles and submit logs weekly to supervisor;
  • Transports self and youth to and from work locations via assigned vehicles; operates and maintains assigned vehicle (12-15 passenger van);
  • Responsible for reporting/documenting any damages that may occur to leased or rented vehicles;
  • Assist in maintenance and upkeep of the program equipment; Train staff/youth;
  • Ensures staff/youth follow proper safety procedures and guidelines while using equipment;
  • Assist in maintaining adequate supplies and materials inventory;
  • Keeps a daily log identifying completed projects;
  • Mandated reporting of abuse and neglect through the appropriate channels;
  • Performs other work-related activities and duties as required

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently when required;
  • Must be reliable, flexible, trustworthy and work well under pressure;
  • Must have skill in dealing with a variety of people of all age groups – excellent communication skills;
  • Skilled in handling conflict such as staff, parent, child complaints and/or disputes;
  • Experience in transporting clients/youth in a 12-15 passenger van/shuttle in inclement weather and driving truck with trailer preferred.
  • Must be familiar with operating hand and power tools;
  • Ability to handle minimal to extreme physical activity at any given time;
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, work in inclement weather, lift up to 50 lbs. and meet the physical requirements outlined in the job description.
  • Ability to speak in a public setting and facilitate groups;
  • Must be able to travel and work irregular shifts while attending Leadership Camp(s).
  • Must follow guidelines set in the Code of Ethics for Helping Professionals

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s license, good driving record, Tribally Insurable;
  • Must be able to become certified in CPR/First Aid;
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Applicants with Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be given preference.
  • An associate or baccalaureate degree or, are willing to enroll in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
  • Must be 25 years or older.
  • High School Diploma/GED required. (Additional consideration given to those that have extended education in fields associated with youth or youth-related activities/prevention/wellness)
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience with youth/adults
  • At least two (2) years of related maintenance, carpentry or repair experience preferred
  • Must have previous experience working with Native American clientele and understand cultural needs.
  • Prefer applicants to maintain a substance abuse free lifestyle while employed and working with youth.

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROL;

Will supervise crew bosses and youth workers daily while performing field and classroom activities during summer youth employment period.
