RATE OF PAY: $19.92 – $27.50 / PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION:
The goal of the Tribal Language/Culture program is to revitalize the Language, Culture and History of the Spokane Tribe. Our main goal is to ensure that the Language, Culture, and History are being passed down from generation to generation. The Curriculum Specialist will learn the Spokane Language and assist the efforts to revitalize the Spokane Language, Culture and History.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate planning, designing, and development of course content and assessments;
• Develop content aligned to the Cultural competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CCDEI) Standards for Teachers;
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administration to seek out and design innovative instructional materials to support the instruction of the Cultural competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CCDEI) Standards for Teachers;
• Review course and content data making recommendations regarding revisions;
• Identify quality content providers for supplementary curricular resources;
• Research new and innovative curriculum practices; stay current with curricular trends and Cultural competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CCDEI) Standards for Teachers;
• Work directly with teaching staff and Immersion School Manager in the design and vetting of course content, including curriculum guides, pacing guides, and instructional materials;
• Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others;
• Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity;
• Facilitate meetings and professional learning opportunities for teacher and parents in the use of curriculum resources;
• Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds;
• Effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of students, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programs;
• Perform research and development activities pertaining to curriculum and instructional programs and innovative and creative pilot projects designed to enhance student’s educational opportunities and experiences;
• Facilitate professional development and meetings with colleagues, teachers, site administrators, staff and parents;
• Perform all other duties as necessary or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of Cultural Standards, English Language Development, pedagogy, and curriculum design;
• Implementation of copyright standards with any creation done while working for the Immersion School and or the Spokane tribe of Indians;
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization;
• Understands learning theory;
• Strong verbal, written, and communication skills;
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills
• Ability to: Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instructional program for students;
• Understand the role of data in the instructional cycle;
• Fluent in the Spokane Language through the completion of N1, S1, N2, and S2 while working towards completion of N3 when available;
• Must learn the Language, Culture and History of the Spokane Tribe;
• Teach the Spokane Language, Culture, and History in oral and written form;
• Teach using several language teaching methods;
• Must be a positive role model for students and community;
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills, will work respectfully with Elders and other culturally knowledgeable people and students

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Required to apply for and receive a Tribal and First People’s Language,
Culture and Oral Traditions Certification or endorsement;
• Infant, Child, and Adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification;
• Must complete a course in Issues in Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporting Training;
• Food Handlers certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma; and/or working toward a Child Development Associates (CDA) and/or working towards an AA in Early Childhood Education or Education;
• Curriculum design, development, and implementation experience preferred;
• Have knowledge in Cultural and History teachings;
• Accept Training in Indigenous knowledge of Spokane Culture, science and literacy;
• Must have a valid WA State Driver’s License, good driving record and be able to
hold Tribal insurance;
• Must be able to pass required state, federal and tribal background checks.

OTHER:
Must be able to interpret language teachings through spoken Salish, spelling and written forms using the Salish font (APS alphabet). Accept training and implement indigenous classroom management and indigenous teaching methodology. Able to work respectfully with Tribal Elders. Able to work well independently and be a team player.
