July 4 2007

The Wellpinit VFW Post 10711 was showcased during the Fourth of July celebration at Riverfront Park. The annual "Neighbor Day" event organized by Clear Channel Broadcasting attracts approximately 10,000/plus visitors to downtown Spokane during its event.

Neighbor Day organizers invited the Spokane Tribe to participate as a major part of their official program prior to the evening’s spectacular fireworks show. During the program all of the military branches were represented on the main stage with their appropriate color guards. The Wellpinit VFW members joined the military Veterans while carrying the US Flag, POW Flag and their traditional Native Eagle Staff.

Public Relations Director Jamie Sijohn introduced the Wellpinit VFW group to the audience while speaking briefly of the Tribe’s important history throughout the Spokane area. The VFW members sang an honor song to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers and to support our troops of today. VFW members included; Dick Brisbois, Pat Moses, Ray Peone, Maury Finch, Mike Spencer, Brian Flett and Dave Browneagle.

The Wellpinit VFW group was greeted by the audience and organizers with smiles and words of thanks for their participation in this special program designed to salute our Veterans and military troops.
