Spokane Tribe Firefighters Dispatched to Arizona to Assist in the Firefighting Efforts

The Spokane Tribe of Indians Fire Management office dispatched 2 fire trucks and 6 firefighters from Wellpinit, Washington to Fort Yuma, Arizona today.  6 firefighters from the Spokane Indian Reservation will be stationed at Fort Yuma for approximately 14 days. Although another Spokane Tribe team is on standby in case we need to rotate in another group of firefighters.

The Arizona Regional Firefighting office put a call out to neighboring agencies for assistance. The local Arizona communities are exhausting all of their own resources while helping fight the large wildfires in Arizona.

The Spokane Tribe’s firefighting team is responding to what is called a “fire severity detail”. The detail responsibilities will be to support the local community in case a fire is reported within the communities along the Colorado River near Ft. Yuma. This is due to all of the Arizona local resources working to control the large wildfires.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians and its Fire Management personnel are always willing and ready to assist our neighbors. The Spokane Tribe is proud of our firefighters and wish them a safe journey.
