INTRODUCTION:

Transport passengers in unison with routes and schedules developed by the Transit Team, Transit Planner, and Planning Department Director.   Incumbent’s primary responsibilities are to operate and maintain THE MOCCASIN EXPRESS fleet vehicles consistent with the needs of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and surrounding communities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate passenger vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Inspect, schedule and monitor vehicle maintenance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles and THE MOCCASIN EXPRESS facilities
  • Operate vehicles to provide public transit services consistent with established routes and schedules.
  • Maintain complete documentation as required by Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) compliance regulations.
  • Assist the Transit Planner in data entry preparation for the mileage logs, revenue hours, and revenue mileage.
  • Assist the Transit Planner in daily driver scheduling.  Will provide back-up support for driver scheduling when the Transit Planner is out of the office.
  • Assist the Transit Planner in ensuring that the Preventative Maintenance is completed and documented according to FTA, WSDOT, and warranty compliance regulations.
  • Assist the Transit Planner in completing additional compliance regulation checks on the transportation facilities, vehicles, etc…
  • Assist the Transit Planner in driving evaluations to be completed randomly on each driver.
 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to promptly respond to customer service needs and respond positively to potentially emotional customer requests for service and assistance.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully within the Spokane Tribal Community and culture.
  • Must have knowledge of the Spokane Indian Reservation and be able to read a map.
  • Must have the ability to keep accurate reports and correspondence.
  • Work days, Mon – Thurs, 32-hours per week, as required.  Must be able to maintain a regular work schedule with little flexibility.
  • Must have a valid State of Washington Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or Class B) with a passenger’s endorsement, or willing to obtain a CDL and passenger endorsement within eight months.
  • Must be able to be insured by the Spokane Tribe of Indians vehicle insurance program.
  • Must have a current CPR/First Aid certificate or willing to obtain certification immediately upon hire.
  • Ability to read and interpret the English language documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be a self motivator and able to work with little direct supervision.
  • Must have the ability to write/ maintain routine reports and correspondence in compliance with FTA and WSDOT.
  • Must be able to pass random DOT drug testing requirements.
  • Must have ADA (Adults with Disabilities Act) Training and experience or be willing to obtain ADA Training immediately upon hire.
 GUIDELINES:
  • Represent Tribe in competent, professional manner;
  • Comply with all of The Moccasin Express and Tribal personnel policies & procedures, Tribal law and Order Code, as well as all federal funding agencies’ guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This position requires approximately 80% of the time operating public transit vehicles and 20% time allocation for maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and facilities.
  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to safely operate motor vehicles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass a DOT drug test and all required back ground checks as required by the Spokane Tribe of Indians;
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be tribally insurable;
  • This position requires occasional local travel.  Additional travel may be required to attend out of area trainings and meetings.
