Enrich your student’s Native American heritage education and make a difference in our community!
The Spokane Tribe of Indians will be hosting the 3rd Annual Heritage Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center located at 404 N Havana Street in the Spokane Valley. Reservations are being taken now for all ages and classroom sizes. As always, this educational event is free to attend including free parking in the main parking lot of the Fairgrounds. There will be a spacious lunchroom provided to store sack lunches during the event and room for everyone to eat at their convenience.
Last year, The Spokane Tribe of Indians encouraged our youth, and the community to team together and make a difference by raising funds for the Chief Spokan Garry Monument. With the funds raised by local schools, businesses, and residents, The Spokane Tribe was successful in placing this monument in what is now called The Gathering Place at Chief Garry Park on Mission Avenue, between Cook and Regal Streets.
This year, the Spokane Tribe would like to bring a new focus of community partnership and improvement. They will be taking a collection of canned and non perishable food items at this year’s Heritage Day Celebration and will give this donation to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. If everyone who attends brings just one can of food to donate—that would be approximately 2,000 cans of food! With the cold weather upon us, they will be very grateful for your generous participation and donations!
If you have not yet made reservations to attend the 3rd Annual Heritage Day Celebration, you still have time, simply send your RSVP including the number in your group and requested lunch time to Jamie Sijohn with the Spokane Tribe at jamies@spokanetribe.com or call 509-458-6586. Or you can contact Bridgette at genesis601@gmnow.biz or call 509-777-1120.
Over the course of the next week The Spokane Tribe will be meeting to develop a working agenda that we will be sending you soon. If you have any questions in the mean-time, please don’t hesitate to ask!
We are looking forward to seeing you and your students at our 3rd Annual Heritage Day Celebration!
